The Ruaha National Park

The River

The Great Ruaha river runs along the eastern boundary of Ruaha National Park, and is the lifeblood of the park and surrounding areas. However, it has been drying up earlier every year during the dry season, as a result of more intensive agriculture and livestock keeping further up the catchment. . The reduced water flow is of concern to everyone from conservationists to users of electricity throughout Tanzania and is currently under investigation by several cooperating agencies.

FORS has been involved in awareness raising and advocacy regarding this issue.
